# Choosing the copilot or agents

Choose between editing the open document and exploring separate animation takes.

Use the copilot when you have a document to change. Its request includes your selection,
the stage and recent edits. “This” can refer to the layer you selected. Its document edits
join the editor's undo history, grouped by message.

Use Agents Mode when you want an idea built as separate takes. Each thread has its own
brief and agent. Naming **B** in a reply refines that take. Earlier cards keep earlier
versions; opening a card brings that version into a studio tab for editing.

| Choice | Where the animation changes | How you return to an earlier result |
|---|---|---|
| Copilot | The open document | Undo the turn's document edits. |
| Agents on the Engine | Separate cloud documents for the thread's takes | Open an earlier card. |
| Agents in Frolic | Separate sources compiled on this computer | Open an earlier card; source revisions are kept too. |
| Directed film | A storyboard of shots and its assembled film | Open an earlier card, or ask to revise named shots and cut again. |

“On this computer” describes where Frolic compiles. Both choices still use Claude Code or
Codex and its AI provider. The Engine and directed films also use LottieFiles in the cloud.
All need **AI features** on; Frolic alone avoids the LottieFiles sign-in requirement.

Stopping a turn keeps results already made. Undoing document edits does not remove exports
or undo work in a cloud take. In Agents Mode, the earlier cards are the way back; in the
studio, `u` applies to edits made there.
