# Bring in a headline by word

Make each word rise and fade into place while keeping the headline on one text layer.

1. Press `⇧T` to choose **Text**.
2. Click the stage. A text insertion point appears.
3. Type a short headline with at least two words. Your text appears on the stage.
4. Press `esc` to finish typing.
5. Press `0` to return to the first frame.
6. Scroll over the rail (the Properties panel in After Effects or Figma) to **TEXT**.
7. Click **rise** beside **Animate**. The rail shows **Animate text** and its controls.
8. Click **word** beside **By**. The effect now moves each word together.
9. Press `space`. The words rise and fade in one after another.

Next, change **Delay** to space the words further apart or **Duration** to slow each word's
arrival. See [Text and fonts](https://terminal.lottiefiles.com/docs/layers/text.md#text-controls) for all the controls.
