# Make a confetti burst

Make one burst of spinning confetti and adjust how long it stays on the stage.

Start with a file copy of your animation, or a blank document. The burst starts at the
emitter's in point; it does not wait for a button press unless you add a state machine.

1. Press `esc` until no layer is selected. The rail (the Properties panel in After Effects or
Figma) shows the document rather than a layer.
2. Press `:` to open the command palette.
3. Type `Particles › Confetti burst` and press `⏎`. A selected emitter appears in the middle
of the stage, with its cone pointing up.
4. Drag the emitter's centre to the place the confetti should start. Its particles start
   from that position.
5. Scroll over the rail to **Emit**. **burst** is selected, with **Count** and **Every** below.
6. Click **Count**, type `60` and press `⏎`. The emitter makes 60 pieces.
7. Click **Every**, type `0` and press `⏎`. There is one burst rather than repeated groups.
8. Press `0`, then `space`. Confetti spreads, spins and falls from the first frame.
9. Press `space` to pause with the confetti visible. You can inspect the flight.

For a shorter effect, reduce both **Lifetime** values. To fade rather than vanish, set the
right-hand **over life** value under **Opacity** to `0`. `u` undoes the last change.
