# Change an animation’s size and length

Set a document to a square canvas and a five-second score without trimming its existing artwork.

Start with a local document open in the editor.

1. Press `esc` until no layer is selected. **ARTBOARD** appears in the rail
   (the Properties panel in After Effects or Figma, the Inspector in Rive).
2. Click **1:1**. The artboard grows to a square around the artwork.
3. Click the seconds value beside **Length**. The number becomes a text field.
4. Type `5` and press `enter`. The score (the timeline) becomes five seconds long;
   layers that ended with the animation reach its new end.
5. Press `w` to save. If this is a new document, type its filename and press `enter`.

Next, [export the new size](https://terminal.lottiefiles.com/docs/export.md). See [Artboard controls](https://terminal.lottiefiles.com/docs/home-and-screen.md#rail)
for frame rate and exact width and height.
