# Make a row of delayed copies

Arrange four extra copies of an animated layer, each following its motion a little later.

Start with one animated shape in a local document. Leave room to its right for the copies.

1. Click the original shape on the stage. Its values appear in the rail (the Properties panel in After Effects or Figma).
2. Press `⌃⇧D`. A repeat is created and its null is selected.
3. Click **more** until **Repeat** appears. Its arrangement controls come into view.
4. Click **Count**. Its number opens for typing.
5. Type `4`. The entry reads 4.
6. Press `⏎`. There are five shapes: the original and four extra copies.
7. Click **linear** under **Arrangement**. The copies form a line.
8. Click **Spacing**. Its number opens for typing.
9. Type `250`. The entry reads 250.
10. Press `⏎`. The copies sit 250 px apart.
11. Click **Stagger**. Its number opens for typing.
12. Type `0.2`. The entry reads 0.2.
13. Press `⏎`. Each copy's motion is delayed by another 0.2 seconds.
14. Click **index** under **Order**. The delay grows along the row.
15. Press `0`. The playhead returns to the beginning.
16. Press `space`. The move passes along the row.
17. Press `space` again. Playback pauses.
